Cave 7

Most of the ruins are inaccessible during the winter months. But my friend, Randy Langstraat and I were lucky enough to make to this seldom seen box canyon ruin near Cave 7 during an icy day in late January.

The little box canyon ruin on the shelf, does not really have a well known name for itself.....but because of its proximity to Cave 7.... many mistakenly call it Cave 7

Max in her glory ~

As we enter a Anasazi ruin in a very large alcove (cave) today, Max reaches up towards the weeping desert varnish that flows down the Navajo Sandstone which is towering over 100 above her head. The cave and ruin itself is to my back as I take this shot of her.
Hard to get perspective of this if you have never entered on of these...but for those of you who have.....no explanation is needed.

Big Man Panel

My wife and I spent the whole day yesterday hiking together in the canyons. Neither one of us cried or fainted.......guess it was a successful hike. I have always just seen straight shots of Big Man Panel....so I wanted to try something from another angle....had the camera in the dirt for this one.

The Quail Panel ~

The Quail Panel
Tuesday 09.14.10 ~ We decended 800 feet down into the canyon at dawn. 22 miles of climbing over boulders, bushwhacking, mud & quicksand. Made it out of the canyon as the setting sun was swallowed by the horizon. We finished the hike up on the canyon rim by moonlight. I was scuffed up and bloody.....but it was good.

This very unusual pictograph of a face is near The Quail Panel.

Less than half way through the hike we reached The Quail Panel.
I'm already looking"Dawg eared" by the time we reached it.

This Basketmaker petroglyph appeared in Sally J. Cole's book "Legacy on Stone" I had been looking for it for just about a year. Today I was able to visit this site and capture the "big bird" in my camera lens.

Though it was snowy and wet.....the hiking in Butler Wash the end of this Feb was great. Even though I was not able to get many photos, I was able to get this one shot of a popular ruin in Butler Wash. Jim Talaric, a photograper friend, help me with the lighting for this shot.

Here is a grinding stone that is located in the same cave as the ruin above.e.

Here is a very large spiral that is on the canyon wall over looking the Long Finger/Boomerang Ruin site.
